Embu County’s healthcare system has received a major boost after receiving a donation of ICT equipment and medical supplies worth Sh5.3 million from the USAID Jamii Tekelezi Programme.
The donation included desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones, as well as cancer screening gadgets that are set to support 33 healthcare facilities across the county.
Programme Finance Director Moses Mukua said the introduction of the equipment was meant to enhance the accuracy of diagnostics and improve timely data monitoring for patients.
“We are committed to supporting the healthcare sector in the country and working together with the government to address emerging healthcare challenges, “Mr. Mukua said.
Speaking while handing over the donation at Embu Level Five Hospital on Wednesday, the Director noted that this was the second donation in the county where a few years ago the program delivered a similar donation worth Sh9 million.
This, he said, will aid in building a resilient healthcare system in the county to ensure it is equipped to effectively prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to public health threats.
Governor Cecily Mbarire said the donation will go a long way in improving service delivery, enhancing efficiency, and overall healthcare outcomes for residents.
“These supplies will play a crucial role in transforming how healthcare is delivered in our county by enabling our facilities to operate more effectively and respond to the needs of our people,” she said.
Additionally, the Governor reported that they will be employing more health care workers to improve service delivery.
“We are soon going to employ more doctors and promote others as per our agreement with their unions,” said the Governor.
