Residents of Kishermoruak area in Narok West Constituency are set to benefit from Sh 3.5 million water project, that will ease the burden of sourcing for the precious commodity.
Area Member of Parliament Gabriel Tong’oyo said he had set aside the money from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty so as to boost the livelihood of the people living next to the Maasai Mara Game reserve.
The borehole will be drilled at Kishermoruak Boys Secondary school and is expected to serve the surrounding community who trek for long distances to look for clean water.
“For years, Kishermoruak residents have endured untold hardships due to the lack of a reliable water source especially during prolonged dry spells. The borehole is expected to solve these problems,” said the MP.
The learners at Kishermoruak Boys Secondary school and Kishermoruak primary school had to sacrifice part of their class time to fetch water in the nearby River Talek that is a distance away from the school.
The situation was even more dire for the community that co-exist with wild animals as women and children have to walk several kilometers daily through wildlife corridors, risking encounters with dangerous animals.
Ms Mary Siloma, a resident of Kishermoruak location said the project is a big relief to the community, who struggled to access clean water.
“During dry spells, we walk far distances to look for clean water, which exposes us to the danger of meeting with dangerous wild animals for instance, elephants,” she said.
The easy access to clean water is expected to boost the livelihoods of the residents of the Kishermoruak area.
