The construction of Sh154 million Level 4 hospital at Mai Mahiu in Nakuru is expected to improve delivery of health services to the public.
While assessing the progress, County Acting Director for Public Health, Lilian Muyale said the hospital will help reduce congestion at both Naivasha Sub-County and Nakuru Level 5 hospitals.
Muyale said the facility expected to be complete in November will be a big boost to the government’s initiative to offer Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to citizens being one of the key pillars under the Big 4 Agenda.
She said the facility will offer most of the needed medical services as it will have modern state of the art theatres, laboratories, X-rays and imaging centres and pharmacies.
The director said the hospital once complete will also reduce the distances patients travelled to access specialized health services and enhance County’s response efforts to medical emergencies.
She added that the project which has been funded by the County government will also improve healthcare services to residents of surrounding Counties referred to the facility.
Muyale said recently the county Government employed over 300 healthcare workers, among them doctors, nurses, clinicians and laboratory technicians to ensure delivery of quality health services across the region.
