Sh 60 million NG CDF to support the education sector

Matayos Member of Parliament Geoffrey Odanga has urged contractors engaged through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG CDF) to ensure that they do quality work as guided by the Bill of Quantities.

Speaking during the disbursement of Sh 60 million worth of NG CDF to needy students in the constituency, Odanga noted that a number of contractors were doing shoddy work.

“We have visited some two projects and realised that the contractors are not doing well,” he said, adding that some of the recently completed projects already require renovation.

He stated that future contracts will only be awarded to those who have track records.

“I want to urge the NG CDF monitoring and evaluation committee together with the project management committee to ensure that quality of work is achieved.

The MP blamed poor performance in Secondary schools in the area on teachers, arguing that most of the students they enrol normally perform well in Primary school.

“I want to encourage secondary school teachers within this constituency to be committed to teaching and guiding students so that they can perform better,” he said.

Odanga at the same time urged residents to be tolerant, live peacefully, and provide a conducive environment for learners.

“This is because both teachers and students come from different communities, and the moment we start discrimination, learners will not be able to perform,” he said.

He disbursed Sh18 million to Mundika Boys Secondary School, Sh1.7 million to Budokomi Secondary for the completion of an ongoing project, Sh1.2 million for the purchase of a parcel of land, and Sh1.2 Million to Mundka Primary School for renovation, among others.
