Hundreds of residents of Ijara and Hulugho Sub Counties in Garissa County are in dire need of relief food due to severe drought ravaging the area.
Residents are on the verge of starving and besides lack water and fodder for their livestock as drought continues to ravage the two sub counties.
Leaders who spoke to KNA Monday said both the national and county governments are yet to respond to the drought that has lasted for two months now in the region.
Local elders including Ali Omar and Mohammed Gure Hassan Ahmed lamented they had not received any relief food from the government for the last one month.
They said that they only got Sh15, 000 from Kenya Red Cross two months ago.
However, they commended Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor who has been trucking water to residents in far flung areas of the sub county.
Meanwhile, some residents have since migrated to Boni forest in the neighboring Lamu County with their livestock, putting them at a collision course with multi- agency forces looking for Al-shabab militia in the dense forest.
On its part, the national drought monitoring agency led by Abdi Noor said they have done drought assessment and monitoring and are expecting food from Nairobi.
