Senator Abdillahi launches empowerment program for youth, women

UDA-nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi has launched an empowerment program targeting youth and women in line with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Through the initiative, the Senator aims to empower small-scale businesses, promote gender equality, tackle unemployment, and foster responsible parenting.

Speaking in Likoni constituency during the launch, the Senator underscored the importance of empowering small-scale businesses because the country’s economy cannot grow without their input.

The Senator encouraged Mombasa youths and women to start businesses to improve their living standards.

“If small businesses are not empowered, then it will be difficult for the country to progress economically, she said, urging Mombasa youths to start businesses.

The Senator promised to support Mekatilili Group, which is making honey, in having it certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), paving the way for the product to access more markets.

“We are here to give them capital and to take the products to KEBS for certification before they enter the market,” said the nominated Senator.

Miraj also advocated for unity and equality within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance. She expressed the readiness of women to take up positions in the Kenya Kwanza government and diligently fulfill their responsibilities.

Senator Abdullahi further urged Kenyans to pay taxes for the government to fulfill its campaign pledges. She vowed to continue with the empowerment of small businesses.

“We promise to empower small businesses, knowing perfectly that if we support the youth and women, it will be easier for them to pay tax,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Senator attributed the upsurge of theft to unemployment and poor parenting and urged parents to be responsible.

“As parents, we should come together and form small groups to discuss the possible solutions for our children’s progress,” she advised.

The Senator commended President Ruto’s initiative to plant 15 billion trees in Kenya and announced her own campaign to plant one million trees in the Coast region.
