Security to be enhanced to ensure Huduma registration succeeds

The government has assured residents of Hulugho, Ijara and parts of Fafi sub-counties of their security during the Huduma number registration exercise.
Speaking at Garissa primary school playgrounds on Wednesday when he launched the exercise, North Eastern Regional Commissioner Mohamed Birik said that the government has no hidden agenda in issuing the Huduma number to citizens aged six years and above.
Birik instructed the sub-county security teams of the three sub-counties to enhance their surveillance to ensure a smooth registration of Kenyans especially those along the border with war-torn Somalia. He said officials carrying out the registration in these areas will be given enough security during the entire period of the registration.
The regional commissioner dismissed claims that the government could be having a hidden agenda in the whole exercise.“The exercise is meant to consolidate all the relevant documents among them ID cards, driving license, NHIF among others into one data base for ease of reference,” Birik said.
“You will not be moving around with your wallet full of Id cards, NHIF cards, driving license and other documents,” he added. Birik urged the political class to assist the government in educating wananchi on the importance of registering.
His appeal comes barely a week after a section of MCAs in Garissa town had requested the government to shelve the exercise in drought stricken counties and re-allocate the funds meant for the registration towards drought mitigation measures.
