Security personnel seize contraband goods

Security personnel in Keiyo North Sub County have confiscated 654 packets of cigarettes, 150 cartons of 2nd generation liquor all believed to be contraband goods from a bar in Iten town.

Keiyo North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Julius Maiyo who led a multi sectoral government team which included KRA, KEBS and public health officers among others said initial reports have termed the liquor to be unfit for human consumption.

He said the packaging was suspect as some of the cartons were not labeled nor did they have the standardization mark from KEBS adding that even those labeled the contents inside were contrary to what was indicated on the label.

The DCC said the cigar labels indicated that they were meant for export adding that they also found 5 loto machines which were also confiscated.

He said the security personnel are looking for the proprietor of the bar known as “Hustler bar” who is on the run and whom they believe may be having a place where he makes the goods.

He said all the confiscated goods were taken by KRA where they will be kept for further analysis before initiating legal proceedings.

Maiyo hailed members of the public for reporting the matter to security personnel so that action can be taken saying such people were endangering the lives of residents by selling to them illicit goods.

He said the residents reported that the proprietor has been selling the second generation liquor at very cheap prices compared to other bars saying a 250ml bottle was going for Sh.150 while the same goes for Sh.250 in other places something which raised their suspicions.
