Combined efforts of 12 Criminal Investigations Officers from Nairobi DCI headquarters, forest service officers and local police officers are probing the loss of three G3 rifles and ammunitions from Kenya forest offices in Saboti division, Trans Nzoia County.
Trans Nzoia county commissioner Samson Ojwang said during a press briefing in his office Thursday that coordinated efforts have been extended to the neighbouring Bungoma County as well as Pukwo and Kapshorwa in Uganda.
According to the county commissioner all efforts are being made to recover the three stolen guns, magazines and rounds of ammunition.
The County police Commander Ayub Ali, confirmed that the detectives who arrived yesterday evening will have a joint operation with the county criminal investigation officers and forest rangers.
“It is true that CID officers have been dispatched from Nairobi and they will work with our staff to recover the stolen security equipment,” he said.
On Monday night this week, the Saboti Forest division office was broken into and a steel box used as armory that had rifles, magazines and ammunitions stolen.
Saboti forest division officer in charge Silas Okring told KNA that the box containing the fire arms was later found 300 meters from the office with the rifles and ammunitions missing.
The county commissioner asked residents to volunteer information that may lead to arrest of the suspects.
He said that security agents have been put on the high alert to ensure insecurity incidents are contained.
On covid 19, the County Commissioner asked residents to observe the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.
