The Public Health department, Kakamega County has closed down Ebwambwa Primary School in Lurambi Sub County indefinitely after all the 16 latrines collapsed following heavy rainfall that has been pounding the area.
And following the closure, 781pupils at the institution will stay at home until toilets are reconstructed.
Area Public Health Officer, Annette Alusa said it would be risky for the pupils to be in school without the sanitation facilities.
“We have taken this action to forestall the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases among school children and to give time the management and other stakeholders to rectify the situation,” she said.
The School head teacher, Lawrence Kajilwa appealed to the county government and well-wishers to assist in constructing toilets so that learning could resume soonest.
