Sang encourages healthy lifestyles to reduce chronic diseases

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has called upon locals to adopt a healthy lifestyle and embrace routine medical checkups to reduce the burden of chronic diseases.

“By taking the correct health services, screenings, and treatments, you are taking important steps towards living a longer and healthier life. Regular check-ups can help find potential health issues before they become a problem,” said Sang.

Sang said early detection and treatment can save lives, particularly in cases of cancer, heart disease, and other life-threatening conditions.

“Medical check-ups are essential to our well-being as they help us to identify irregularities, slow down the progression of some conditions, and prevent health issues,” he said.

The Governor was speaking at Kobujoi Health Centre in Aldai Sub County during the Special Olympics Kenya Health Athletes screening exercise organized by area Member of Parliament Marrianne Kitany.

The team will represent Kenya at the Special Olympics World Games this month in Berlin from July 17–25.

“As they embark on this incredible journey, we are confident that they will represent our nation with utmost pride and excellence, flying our flag high on the international stage,” he said.

There was also a blood donation exercise during the event, where residents were urged to donate blood to increase the amount at the county’s blood bank.

Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei said sometimes it takes a while for symptoms of a life-threatening disease to manifest, adding that if the disease is detected early, one stands a better chance of getting the right treatment, which can save life.

“The money you spend on a medical check-up is nothing compared to the cost of treating a condition that is at an advanced stage. Therefore, it is wise to invest in regular check-ups to prevent and manage diseases in the early stages,” she said.
