A Narok town based Safaricom employee yesterday tested positive for Covid-19 raising the total of Covid -19 positive cases in the county to three.
Narok Governor Samuel Tunai confirmed that the man who works in Narok town’s Safaricom Shop had been tested while in Nakuru, where his family lives but the results were released yesterday while on duty in Narok town.
“Immediately the results were out, our security personnel looked for and isolated him at the Narok County Referral hospital. The people the employee had come in contact with are being sought and will be put on quarantine immediately,” said the governor.
The county boss spoke yesterday at county headquarters after a meeting with the County Emergency Response Committee where he said the other two who were already isolated are responding well to treatment.
“One of the sick persons was working in Suswa trading center, while the second victim was a casual laborer at the Narok town Sewerage Construction site based at Polung’a estate in Narok town,” reported Tunai.
Tunai said the county was committed to putting up over 300 beds in addition to the present 40 beds at the Narok County Referral Hospital to fight the disease.
“During the Governors Statehouse meeting last week, we agreed to set up over 300 beds in all counties that will be used for isolation of the Coronavirus patients. In our case, we are targeting 500 beds that will be made by our local carpenters,” said Tunai.
The county boss added the county department of Health was also working to see enough health workers were employed to take care of the Covid-19 patients.
“It is time we all become serious on averting this disease because no one is immune. Anybody can get this disease hence we all need to be very careful,” Tunai said.
On his part Narok County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti reiterated that security officers will not relent in arresting those found not following the laid down guidelines by the department of health.
“Habits like washing hands, putting on masks the right way and keeping social distance are now a must to everybody. We need to be vigilant to ensure our county doesn’t record increasing cases,” warned Kimiti.
He called on anyone who feels unwell to visit the health facilities and get tested for Covid-19 to keep the virus at bay.
