A Nyeri based Sacco, Biashara Sacco has donated an assortment of foodstuff and clothing items worth Sh 1.05 million to 14 children’s homes and needy families ahead of the Christmas festivities.
The donations which also included pampers, sanitary towels and toiletries will be distributed to children’s homes in Nyeri, Nanyuki and Embu counties where Biashara Sacco draws its membership. Over 500 needy families are also set to benefit from the donations.
According to the Sacco’s Chief Executive Officer, Rose Kimaru the donations are one of the ways of giving back to the society and ensuring that the less fortunate join other Kenyans in celebrating Christmas.
“Given the hard economic status in Kenya, these families will have reason to celebrate and enjoy the Christmas holiday. It will also play a good role to brighten the children and the place they call home,” she said while presenting their donations at the St. Lwanga Catholic Church in Nyeri Town on Sunday.
The Christmas donation is part of the Sacco’s Social Corporate Responsibility. This year they spent Sh 560,000 in a school feeding programme. The Sacco has also invested in a students’ mentorship programme for Form 4 leavers from needy backgrounds where they train successful applicants to work as apprentices before they join university.
