Rural roads to get sh. 20 million upgrade

The   Chuka National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has set aside Some Sh. 20 million to rehabilitate six roads in the constituency.

The  Chuka Igambang’ombe MP, Patrick Munene  said the money will be spent on murraming, grading and gravel patching six roads among them Kabururu-Kamaindi and Kibugua-Mukuuni roads where 25 and 19 culverts will be installed respectively.

The  other roads are Itugururu-Kabururu, Itugururu-Kamwimbi-Kiaritha, Kibiga-Kiricho-Njuri and Kiracha-Kiamuriuki-Gitogoto.

The  MP said murraming of the roads which is long overdue will enable farmers deliver their produce to Chuka Town ; Tharaka Nithi’s main commercial center faster.

He said contractors will be asked to fast track the works so that the said roads are complete before the onset of the long rains.

“I am aware of the challenges that our people go through especially motorists when rains fall and I can assure my people that murraming of the roads will be complete before the rains,” Munene said when he launched the Kibugua-Mukuuni road on Saturday.

He said the works will involve clearing of bushes around the various roads and also constructing culverts.

Area residents have received the launching of the works with joy, saying murraming of the Kibugua-Mukuuni-Itugururu road will make it easier for them to ferry farm produce for sale at Chuka town.

They claimed public service vehicle operators were charging them highly due to the current poor state of the roads making it difficult for them to make substantial profit from farm produce.

Sarah Makena a fruit vendor at Kibugua market asked the legislator to ensure work is completed on time to allow her to expand her business.

“With murram, I will comfortably sell my fruits by the road side as dust will reduce,” she quipped.
