Embu residents have expressed diverse views with regard to the nomination of Prof. Kithure Kindiki by President William Ruto as the next Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Many hailed the move, saying he was fit for the job given his national demeanour and vast experience in governance, administration, and law that sets him apart from others.
Political Lobbyist Kirangacha Mwaniki said it was also a win for Mt. Kenya East, which has for the first time produced a Deputy President.
“For over 50 years we have supported our brothers from Mt. East from the time of first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and it is time now for them to reciprocate the gesture,” he said.
He said the move will also create equality within the region and bring an end to politics of tribalism and ethnic Balkanisation.
Others who aired their opinions said the appointment was long overdue as Prof. Kindiki was the favourite candidate for the job from leaders and locals from the region during the campaign period.
Resident Gikundo wa Gikundo termed Kindiki as a man of good repute who has never been implicated in any criminal or graft-related matter.
On his part, Joseph Njeru said it was unfair for the former DP to be impeached, yet he was elected on the same ticket as the president without proper public participation being done.
