Hundreds of Narok residents want police to investigate a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) that they allege has conned them millions of shillings after it failed to pay for their children’s school fees as agreed.
The organization dubbed ‘Friends of Kenya’ began operations in the county in July 2018, where they asked parents and business people to deposit some money in their account that would yield huge returns in few days.
The enraged parents stormed the organization’s offices demanding back their money after the firm failed to keep its part of the bargain.
Mr. Dominic Dikirr narrated how he was informed about the organization 2018 by a friend and thought it was a good thing.
The businessman said he was expecting to use the money to pay his son’s Form One fees and expand his livestock business.
“I deposited Sh. 30, 000 with the organisation last year and was expecting to receive Sh. 60, 000 this year, that would be used to pay school fees for my son and expand my livestock business, but I was shocked because I have not received any cash until now,” lamented Dikirr.
Another business woman, Ms. Emily Kipila, said she deposited Sh. 90,000 last July and she is yet to get the loans nor her money back.
“I had been promised to get five times my money in three months’ time but despite visiting the office on a weekly basis, nothing has been given to me,” said Kipila.
They asked police to investigate and prosecute officials of the organization, saying they seem to be operating like a ‘pyramid scheme’ conning people of their hard-earned cash.
However journalists’ efforts to get comment from the organization bosses were futile as all the officers fled, on seeing the journalists leaving behind empty office.
County Criminal Investigations Officer, Zachary Kariuki said they will investigate the allegations once they record statements with them.
