The entire Ijara Constituency comprising of three sub counties has no Safaricom customer care services.
Residents of Ijara led by Ijara watchdog groups chairman Abdullahi Abdi complained to KNA that it was unfortunate that the three sub counties of Ijara, Bothai and Hulugho have no customer centres except for agents.
Abdi noted that Safaricom alone has 6,000 subscribers in Ijara constituency in Garissa County yet there is no single customer service shop for subscribers to replace your lost lines or redress for Mpesa hitches.
He appealed to the management of Safaricom to open at least two customer care service centres in Ijara especially Masalani where people trek for 42km to and from Hola just to replace a line or access Mpesa services.
He said although Safaricom seems eager to do business with subscribers in Ijara, they forget the customer during the hour of need especially those in far flung places like Hulugho and Bothai sub counties.
The former chairman of defunct Ijara County Council Mr. Mohamed Gure also faulted the two leading mobile service providers Safaricom and Airtel for not delivering on their corporate social responsibility roles.
Efforts to contact Safaricom customer care for comment proved fruitless when an employee said they had no authority to speak on the same except the managing director of Safaricom plc.
The residents appealed to Ijara Member of Parliament Mr. Abdi Ali Sheikhow to act fast and liaise with the managing director of Safaricom plc and Airtel plc for smooth communication services to Ijara constituency residents.
The MP was urged to help address the hassles residents face in going to either Hola in Tana River County or Garissa Town just to replace a line and other Mpesa services offered by Safaricom plc.
