Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua has urged the local residents to form groups so that they could benefit from empowerment by different organizations.
Speaking during the official launch of Faulu bank Busia Branch on Friday, Mutua said that all forms of empowerment from both County and National government would be channeled through such groups.
“I want to urge you to form groups and open bank accounts at Faulu because loan repayment can be done through mobile phones,” she said.
She urged the bank to come up with products that would motivate youth to take loans and engage in profit making activities.
“It is my wish that Faulu bank will walk with me and help me through this journey to capacity build both the women and the youth on how to make their money to grow as my office has a very serious issue and I also need a lot of support,” she said.
The MP at the same time urged the bank to come up with a programme similar to Wings to Fly in order to sponsor bright but needy students in the spirit of corporate social responsibility.
The bank’s managing director Apollo Njoroge said the new branch would target farmers to acquire affordable loans.
Apollo added that the bank has over 3, 000 customers in Busia with over Sh200 million loaned against Sh27 million deposits.
He further stated that the bank has entered into partnership with Car and General and Bajaj to avail motorbikes to the riders at subsidized prize.
Busia CECM for Finance Phaustine Baraza urged the locals to form groups in order to save with the bank and acquire loans to grow their businesses.
