Residents in Kiambu county have been urged to enroll under the national health insurance fund (NHIF) , a drive initiated by Governor Kimani Wamatangi in collaboration with National Hospital Insurance Fund to enable them access health services with ease.
NHIF Kiambu branch manager Julius Mwanzia, said that the registration process has been ongoing and asked more people to turn up to enroll under the NHIF cover.
“We have managed to register 16,800 people so far here at Kiambu Sublocation but the number is still growing. Registration is ongoing in different sub-locations in Kiambu, Gatundu, Limuru, Thika and Ruiru, he said.
Mwanzia however asked members to be patient since once the registration is over, it takes three months for the card to be active.
Elizabeth Wanjiku, a resident in Kiambu Township Sub-location who is a mother to five children and also a grandmother expressed her gratitude to the Governor for considering the health of his people and prioritizing healthcare.
“I have been registered alongside my family members. With the tough economy, this will help as the health of my family is covered. That way, I can concentrate more on providing for my family other needs,’’ she said
The registration will be done up to the end of March.
Kiambu County plans to have one scheme for everybody with services both inpatient and outpatient being free and with a proper Universal Healthcare.
Governor Wamatangi says it will reduce the disease burden on the people through availability of accessible healthcare.
Wamatangi in his manifesto had promised the people of Kiambu County free healthcare services targeting 30,000 households and having over a million families registering under the NHIF cover
