Residents Hail Governor Keeping pre-Election Promise

Residents of Mt Elgon constituency have hailed the Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati for having accomplished part of the projects he promised them during the 2017 election campaigns.

Led by nominated Member of County Assembly of Bungoma Jane Chepkorom, they said that the move by the Wangamati to allocate Sh20 million to accomplish High Altitude Sports Center located at Chemoge in Mt Elgon Sub County was a great move that would support youth who have been training in Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties.

The nominated MCA further welcomed the move by Bungoma county government to name the high altitude center after legendary athlete Ben Jipcho for being the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in 3000 meters steeple chase.

She also welcomed the move by Wangamati of buying land to put a medical college at Kapsokwony sub county headquarters hence boosting the economy of the town and also enabling the youths to have formal training.  She added that since independence, the constituency has never had any government college or technical institute.

The nominated MCA said that the hospital has also received Sh10 million for renovation having been in a poor state and called upon the hospital administration to ensure that the monies allocated are spent appropriately.

However, the MCA noted that despite the development achieved by the governor, there was need to also look at other sectors including providing an alternative source of power at the Sub county health facility located at Kapsokwony town.

Chepkorom said there has been a challenge more so at the maternity at night when there is no power due the ongoing rains that interfered with power lines.

She asked Governor Wangamati to put up a generator at the health facility as an alternative source of power to enhance services for both mother and newly born children at the hospital.

The MCA was speaking during the burial of John Mungau who was the first member of Elgon Nyanza Africa District Council in 1956 in a memorial service conducted at Kapsokwony boys high school.

Present was deputy governor Bungoma county Prof. Kabalaki Ngombe.
