Residents benefit from fund

Some 3,992 households in Butere Sub-County will benefit from the Older Persons Cash Transfer Programme.

The Sub-County Social Development Officer Grace Amoit said that each of the households will receive Sh 8000 each in payments that started last week under the government’s Inua Jamii programme.

Amoit said this was a government cash transfer programme that supports the most vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty.

Amoit told KNA that the programme also aims at improving on the livelihoods of the older persons in society who are above 70 years of age.
She noted that in the same area 89 people with disabilities have also benefitted from the programme under the Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer Programme, with each of them receiving sh8000.

Beneficiaries who received the payment thanked the government for the cash saying it will go a long in enabling them meet their daily needs.
