Residents assured of security during census

The  Siaya  County  Commissioner (CC), Francis  Tialal has assured local residents of maximum security during this year’s  census.

Addressing  the County Census Committee meeting  on Friday, Tialal  said that security officers are alert to avert any threat that may jeopardise the exercise that is slated for the night of August 24/25, 2019.

“We are aware that during such period, there are unscrupulous individuals who take advantage and pose as census officials to commit crime. We are ready for them,” he said.

Tialal  called on the sub county security committees to ensure increased patrols during the period, adding that nothing should be left to chance.

The  CC said that all the officials to carry out the exercise have been recruited from amongst the locals, adding that the recruitment panels exercised fairness and followed all the laid down procedures.

Tialal  said that the County Census Committee was committed to ensuring that current and accurate data on the county’s population was obtained during the exercise and called for maximum cooperation from the public.

The  County Statistics Officer, Maureen  Akinyi  said that arrangements for training of the enumerators were complete following the completion of training for Information Technology and Content supervisors.

She  said that census materials have already been delivered to her office from Nairobi, awaiting distribution to the sub counties.

The  meeting  was also attended by the County Police Commander, Francis Kooli and the Siaya Deputy County Commissioner, Joseph Sawe among others.
