Residents asked to register new born babies

Residents of Bungoma County have been asked to register births of their children immediately they occur, so as to be issued with birth certificates on time.

Members of the Service Delivery Committee, noted that some parents in the area, did not register the births as they occurred thus making the number of late registrations to be high.

At a meeting chaired by the Deputy County Commissioner, Bumula Sub-county, Hadya S. Abdalla in Bungoma, Friday, members noted that the parents ended up being caught in the last-minute rush for birth certificates for use in schools.

The County Coordinator, Civil Registration Services, Victoria Odhiambo, pointed out that in 2O23, the office recorded 35,843 late registrations, while current registrations were 8,773.

She noted that the office issued 56,917 birth certificates, to residents of the area last year.

The Co-ordinator urged residents to ensure that they are issued with a birth notification at the hospital of delivery or at the Assistant Chief’s offices, saying such statistics were important for national planning by the government.
