Reprieve for Residents as County commissions Level 4 Hospital

Residents of Ruiru Sub-County can now breathe easily after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi on Saturday commissioned the construction of Kahawa Sukari Level 4 Hospital in Ruiru Sub-County.

The governor who witnessed the ground-breaking for the construction of the 26-bed capacity hospital said it was part of the county government’s plan to ensure that all wards in the county get at least one health facility consisting of an outpatient wing, a 6-capacity bed maternity wing, a mini theatre, and mini laboratory.

Speaking to residents who attended the event, Wamatangi said the project is part of a grand plan to transform the outlook of Kiambu’s healthcare system, especially for the vulnerable members of society such as pregnant mothers, children, and the elderly, to ensure they receive access to healthcare services by constructing more health facilities within their reach.

“After construction, the hospital will cater for the needs of all men, women, and children living in Ruiru Sub-County and its environs and will ease the burden currently being experienced at Ruiru Level 5 Hospital from patients seeking medical care,” he said.

The governor reassured the residents that the murram roads in the area, especially the ones leading to the hospital site that were in deplorable condition, would be constructed to ensure easy and fast access to the hospital at all times.

Wamatangi further pointed out that the health centre will be providing medical services on a 24-hour basis.

“The county government will therefore install solar-powered street lights from the highway all the way to the hospital grounds for security purposes to ensure that anyone seeking medical assistance at night will be able to access the hospital safely,” he said.

The county boss said residents would be able to access health services from the facility in the next 100 days as the construction of the facility would be completed before the end of the year.

Kiambu County Executive Committee Member for Health Services (CECM), Dr. Elias Maina, noted that they had partnered with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to ensure a steady supply of medicines to all the facilities in the country.

He stated that upon completion, the county would equip the facility and deploy healthcare workers for immediate operationalisation.
