Relief for landslide victims

Floods and landslide victims in Kisii County had a reason to smile after Kisii County government presented them with basic needs donations.

The victims, some of who had to relocate to safer grounds received assorted foodstuffs, medicine, blankets and mattresses.

Kisii County is among the 36 counties that have been adversely impacted by floods resulting into losses of homes, income and deteriorated food security.

Flagging off the commodities at the Kisii Agricultural Training College in the outskirts of kisii town, County Secretary Patrick Lumumba directed all Sub-County administrators to ensure only the affected benefited.

Lumumba assigned the Sub-County administrators to map out any ruined bridges for reconstruction.

He urged the affected persons to maintain social distancing and other Covid-19 health protocols to prevent spread of the infectious disease.

Kisii County executive for finance Moses Onderi said that Bomachoge Chache, Bomachoge Borabu and Bobasi constituencies were targeted with the donations.

At least 1000 families in the county have been affected by landslides during the current rains which is bound to continue pounding various parts of the country according to weather forecasters.
