The Kajiado East Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has disbursed cheques worth Sh.18 million for bursary to 3,000 needy secondary, college and university students in the constituency.
Speaking during the disbursement at the Kitengela CDF offices, area Member of Parliament Kakuta ole Maimai said that the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) is critical for the survival of the many needy children and parents in the constituency especially considering the ongoing drought.
“The demand for support by the residents is very high. There are homes today with no sheep nor cows yet they depended on them to take their children to school. If we didn’t have bursaries, there are children who would not have reported to school,” said Ole Maimai
He noted that the Sh.18 million is a drop in the ocean especially considering the tough economic times being witnessed in the country. “This may be a drop in the ocean considering the state of the economy but every help is welcome,” noted Ole Maimai
The MP said that since Kajiado East is cosmopolitan, they have ensured fairness in the process by engaging leaders from all the communities within the constituency.
“We sat with the CDF committee and ensured that each community in Kajiado East is represented by their leader. We have also engaged village elders and chiefs to ensure that only the needy benefit from the bursaries,” said Ole Maimai
In a bid to ensure the bursaries get to the beneficiaries on time, the MP also disbursed the bursaries in Isinya, Isara and Mashuuru towns on the same day.
