A family from Mwea in Kirinyaga County can now breathe a sigh of relief after the head of their kinswoman whose beheaded body was found dumped in Athena area in Thika West Sub County over two months ago was found.
The head was collected in Masinga Dam in Embu County three weeks ago, before it was transferred to Thika Level Five Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, whose results confirmed it belonged to Ann Wangui Wachira.
The exercise that was carried out on Tuesday further revealed that the deceased mother of five was four months pregnant and had sustained injuries in the womb which had led to clotting of blood before she was beheaded.
She had gone to attend a burial at Kimunye village, Kirinyaga County on April 26, but never arrived at the venue.
When her husband with whom they had reunited in January could not trace her that day, he reported the matter to Kianyaga police station and the search for her whereabouts commenced. Her decapitated body was found the next day.
Police in Thika said they are investigating to establish how the body found its way in the area yet she lived elsewhere.
Area DCIO, Hussein Bakari said they were working closely with investigative officers from Embu and Kirinyaga Counties to unearth the reasons behind the murder as well as the culprit(s) involved in the murder.
He called on anyone with information to report to the police so that the killers may be brought to book.
