Regional Commissioner assures residents of timely road completion

Central Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga has assured Ndaragwa Constituency residents that the cess barrier standoff that had delayed the Maili Kumi-Ndaragwa and Maili Kumi-Shamata roads has been resolved.

Speaking in Ol Kalou after a meeting with national government projects’ implementing agencies, Nyagwanga said his team was in consultation with the county government to allow the contractor, China Railway number 10 Engineering Group Limited,  in charge of constructing the 106 km roads in Ndaragwa to move  their materials freely without the cess barrier restrictions.

“National Government projects should be undertaken without hitches as they are meant to serve all including the county government.

I want to assure the residents that the roads in Ndaragwa will be done on time as promised by the president. The contractor will continue to move the material and if any issue arises we will be able to talk with the county government and everything will be cleared,” assured Nyagwanga.

Nyagwanga noted that the completion of the roads in the constituency will ease access to the newly inaugurated Aberdare Sub county headquarters in Shamata, while opening up the region for development.

Work on the Maili Kumi- Ndaragwa is still lagging behind at three percent, with the contractor citing harassment from the Nyandarua County Revenue Department that was demanding levies for transportation of construction materials.

Nyandarua will have an additional 365 kilometres of tarmac once the ongoing contracts are completed, with Ndaragwa Constituency set to benefit from the 106km access roads.

KeRRA Central Region Engineer Willy Mburu said that a 52km Tumaini-Kanyiriri road was complete with residents happy with the timely completion of the project.

“Residents of the region, however, are lobbying for the tarmacking of Kanyiriri-Gilgil road and Kabazi- Tumaini roads. We have started works on the latter, and the tendering process for the Kanyariri-Gilgil road will be launched soon,” said Engineer Mburu.

The roads once completed will ease the mobility of people and farm produce from Kabazi who are forced to travel to Nyahururu or Nakuru to access Gilgil.

On the status of Kapteni-Ndunyu Njeru road, Engineer Mburu said that 2 km of the road had already been tarmacked.
