Real estate firm to construct 600 affordable houses in Bamburi

Boon for Mombasa’s construction industry as the private sector augments the government’s housing agenda through the construction of 600 affordable housing units.

Fairdeal Properties, a real estate firm, has commenced the construction of one, two, and three-bedroom units in Bamburi, Kisauni Sub-County, christened ‘Bamburi Green View’.

“This project is an affordable housing project from Fairdeal Properties in line with the government’s vision for the affordable housing segment. It is contributing in a big way to the economy of Mombasa as well as to the country,” said Vin Patel, Fairdeal Properties – Head of Sales.

The project is divided into three phases, with phase one entailing the construction of 200 units of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. It will take three and a half years to be completed.

The same concept will be used in subsequent phases. The prices of one, two, and three bedrooms are Sh2.35 million, Sh3.49 million, and Sh4.39 million, respectively.

“We are giving customers a good payment plan which is over 40 months with a signing amount; customers can start with Sh30,000 to Sh40,000 as starting instalments,” explained Patel during a groundbreaking ceremony for phase one.

The Real Estate firm has developed Zawadi Apartments, Bamburi Palm View, and Bamburi Coconut Villas in the neighbourhood.

The Head of Sales further revealed that the Bamburi Green View apartments are 70 per cent sold, and bookings are ongoing for the remaining units. Customers are visiting a three-bedroom show house to get a glimpse of the houses to be constructed.

“Our team is on the ground; sales are happening every day. In the next two or three months, we expect our units to be sold to continue with future phases,”  said Patel.

The firm has ambitions to build more affordable houses to complement government efforts and contribute to the ever-growing Mombasa construction industry.

“This will also boost the tourism industry. People who are coming to Mombasa for leisure, tourism, or a short stay. A two-bedroom unit is a good one, and there is short-term rental demand in the market that will be catered to,” said Patel.

“It will contribute to the employment segment, which is the need for the country, and will help the country grow substantially,” he added.

On her part, Avni Bhatt, Marketing Manager, said Fairdeal’s affordable housing segment is convenient, with a wide list of amenities like a swimming pool, a fully equipped gym, a clubhouse, a recreational area, and a children’s play area.

“The common areas are lighted by solar-powered panels. Even if it is affordable, we have tried to give quality amenities to the project,” she said, adding that they work with ABSA Bank for asset financing for their customers.

Lilian Timothy, a home buyer and resident of Mombasa for over 20 years, said for years she has been looking for a place to call home. She was attracted to Bamburi because it’s a fast-growing locality.

“I am one of the pioneer investors. I am looking to buy a house here because the schools are near roads and prayer centers. The prices are so good, it is unbelievable, it is broken down to monthly payments, and it is very reasonable. It is a very good project,” said Timothy.
