Rangwe farmers urge gov’t to complete irrigation project

Farmers in Rangwe and Karachuonyo constituencies in Homa Bay county have urged the government to prioritize the completion of Oluch Kimira irrigation scheme.

The farmers led by Rangwe legislator Lillian Gogo decried that the project had dragged for over a decade.

“The main development agenda which the government should address is the completion of Oluch Kimira irrigation project.” The legislator stressed.

Gogo said she petitioned President William Ruto during his visit to the county last week to factor in the project in the development agenda for the county.

“Some of the development projects that we forwarded to the president include the Oluch   Kimira project that needs immediate completion”, she said.

She said the project will enable crops to grow in the areas which were receiving low rainfall.

The legislator said although the project has gobbled upto Ksh7.5 billion, the farmers have not benefited owing to delays in the implementation of the last mile phase.

Gogo expressed optimism that food security will be enhanced as well as jobs created once the project is completed.
