The government has assured ranchers in Laikipia County that it will take care of their security
Laikipia East Sub County Deputy County commissioner Patrick Muli, speaking during Mashujaa day celebrations for the sub county at Nanyuki town said the government is committed to ensuring security is restored in all areas.
He lamented that some residents were also to blame for the insecurity situation in the area because they had been harbouring illegal herders, an issue he said the government was addressing.
The DCC urged pastoralists to foster peace and live in harmony and at the same time promised that, government would provide them with livestock feed.
Due to the biting drought situation in Laikipia, illegal herders from neighbouring counties of Isiolo, Samburu and Baringo have been invading private farms in search of pasture, an issue that has caused insecurity leaving scores of residents injured and others dead.
The celebrations at the sub county were marred by low turnout. Meanwhile, the main Laikipia county Mashujaa day celebrations were held in Rumuruti.
