Needy residents get Ramadhan food packages

Over 500 vulnerable members of the society in Masalani town, Ijara, Garissa County have benefitted from relief food from the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) and Ijara MP Hon Abdi Ali Ali alias Sheikhow.

The food that comprised of 25kgs of rice, 10kg of sugar, powdered milk and dates was given through Ijara MP Hon Abdi Ali Sheikhow.

The food distribution was done through vetting committees to ascertain people in dire need especially this month of fasting of Ramadhan.

The distribution which is aimed at assisting vulnerable families during this holy month was overseen by the staff and representatives of Ijara constituency office led by Iman Yarrow Kosar.

Kosar thanked NDMA and the office of the MP for their efforts in remembering vulnerable residents especially during this holy month when majority of them are still struggling following the recent prolonged drought spell.

Ijara Deputy County Commissioner Mr Willy Cheboi who was monitoring the food exercise called on chiefs and their assistants and members of community to ensure accountability in the relief food distribution.

The recipients of the food were cautioned against selling the relief rations saying it is meant to assist the poor.
