Residents of Hulugho Sub-County and part of Kabasalo villages in Ijara, Garissa County, received a heavy downpour in better part of yesterday afternoon and last evening, after a long dry spell.
The Residents have been praying to God to intervene over the drought situation that had devastated their lives with loss of livestock.
They said despite the loss of the livestock, they can cope with the little that remained, however, they are appealing to the National and County governments, to assist with food, drugs and mosquito nets, to avert water bone disease.
Mr Abdi Hussein and Hussein Jelly, Holugho residents, said the Almighty God has accepted and answered their prayers after getting heavy rain from early morning to midday today.
They commended the National Drought Monitoring Authority, Department of Water Resources and the Kenya Red Cross Society, for providing water by water bowser and relief food supply, targeting drought affected households.
The residents appealed to other development partners, political leaders, to continue assisting them, noting that despite receiving rain, challenges of food shortage and medical supply would still persist for a while before normalcy is experienced.
They are also calling on the Kenya Wildlife and the Kenya Defense Forces to assist the community through their Corporate Social Responsibility through the construction of dams, boreholes and water pans to harvest run-off water that go to waste during rains.
