Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS) has awarded the Kenya Railways ISO 9001:2015 Certification following a review and evaluation of its Quality Management System.
The Certification confirms Kenya Railways has put up systems and processes to ensure that its products and services meet the needs of clients.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yatani, in a speech read on his behalf by The National Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary, Nelson Gaichuhie, noted that Kenya Railways must, therefore, ensure that the gains made are maintained and that any inefficiencies are identified and uprooted so that the desired outcomes can be achieved.
Yatani further stated that Kenya’s economy would stand to benefit in many varied ways if all the players adopt international best practices.
“The real impact must be felt by the public who are the beneficiaries of the projects and services being offered by Kenya Railways,” his statement read in part.
Kenya Railways Managing, Director Phillip Mainga, said that the QMS ISO Certification will ensure better resource management, reduced wastage, increased operational efficiency and most importantly enhanced customer service delivery.
He reiterated that this was a confirmation that the Corporation was on track towards the realization of its vision.
The certification was granted in two certificates, i.e., Kenya Railways Headquarters and Railways Training Institute (RTI), under certificate Number KEBS/QMS/RF/345REV.00 and KEBS/QMS/RF/342/REV.002 respectively.
The two certificates are offered separately as a distinction and differentiation of the vocational education training services being offered by RTI as it provides skills and technology to the railway sector.
