Pupils at Itavago Primary School in Bomachoge Chache Sub- County in Kisii, jointly with their parents, yesterday, held a demonstration demanding for the cancellation of a transfer affecting their teacher.
The learners and parents forcefully accompanied the Head Teacher, Mr Clement Nyajemi, to Ogembo Sub- County Education Headquarters in Kisii, demanding to know why Mr Vincent Kibosi, had been transferred to a neighboring primary school without their knowledge.
The group was addressed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), curriculum support officer at the Sub- County, Mr Thomas Oyondi, who urged the children to go back to school as the matter was being resolved.
“I plead with you to go back to school. The authority in charge is handling the matter at the moment and a resolution will be achieved before the day ends,” said Oyondi.
Speaking to KNA, the Head Teacher alleged that the parents even beat him up demanding why the teacher had been transferred.
“They grabbed me by the neck while I was entering the school and started beating me, demanding I bring back the teacher or else I also go,” Nyajemi said emphatically.
The School Board of Management Chairperson, Enoch Omwambo, in an exclusive interview with KNA said that the issue had previously been resolved through a board meeting held on Friday, 28th, May after the teacher complained on receiving the transfer letter the previous day.
“I did not anticipate this matter to get out of hand. I thought the teacher was satisfied with what we had discussed as a board on Friday and would move to the new station as was required of him. We as the Board are also shocked,’’ said Omwambo.
Mr Vincent Kibosi was to Report to the new station by Friday last week.
