A pupil is recuperating at the Marsabit County Referral Hospital, while another ten were treated and discharged following a road accident at Kamboe on the Marsabit-Isiolo highway.
Marsabit South Sub-county Police Commander (SCPC), Mbatian Lantai said the pupils were being transported in a probox car to Kings Vision Academy in Marsabit Town when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
Lantai said that the pupils aged between 5 and 14 years were injured with one suffering fractures in 8’00 am accident.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver whom we have ascertained does not possess a driving license lost control of the vehicle after it veered off the road,” said the SCPC.
Mr.Kantai said that the driver has since been arrested and is waiting to be arraigned in court.
He revealed that the suspect will be arraigned in court over charges of driving a vehicle without a driving license, illegally operating public transport business, overloading and carrying uninsured passengers.
The SCPC warned unqualified drivers that stern measures will be taken against them.
Marsabit county referral hospital Chief Executive Officer, Laban Wako confirmed that the injured pupils were received at the hospital.
Laban said that eleven of the injured pupils were treated and discharged for minor soft tissue injuries.
He said one pupil who sustained multiple fractures in the hands was admitted.
”The children were also counseled before they were discharged,” he said.
The Sub-county police commander warned motorists against using private cars to provide public transport as stern action will be taken against anybody found flouting law.
