Laikipia Governor, Ndiritu Muriithi ,has encouraged the local community to exploit online shopping which he noted is a good strategy to cushion traders from being pushed out of bussiness.
The Governor’s call comes in the wake of Covid- 19 pandemic which is a great threat to human life across the globe.
Utilizing of boda boda who are flexible and within easy reach most of the times to shop for supplies in shops, supermarkets and markets is one of the proposals by Governor Ndiritu Muriithi.
“Simplified distance shopping would involve a customer calling their supermarket, shop or grocery to order supplies, then use boda boda to deliver the goods to their homes,” the governor said in his Nanyuki office, today.
The County Boss, noted that the entire transaction should be paid through mobile money to minimize hard currency exchange that poses great risk in spreading the coronavirus.
Last week the County Government of Laikipia partnered with a local internet firm and local chapter of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), to develop an e- commerce platform to enable local business pull through in the wake of the deadly diseases.
The platform is focused on encouraging people to stay indoors as a way of maintaining social distance to curb the spread of Covid- 19 virus.
The Joint effort by the County Government of Laikipia, Mawingu Networks and KNCCI Laikipia Chapter is targeting to bring on board all players providing essential services, such as food and medicine on a common mobile phone- based platform where they will do business.
“The online trading platform will aid in home deliveries’’ KNCCI Laikipia Chapter Chairman, Ndegwa Gitonga said.
The mobile phone application enables buyers and sellers to exchange contact details to allow exchanges of goods and services remotely.
