ICT and Innovation, Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng’, has told youth groups and organisations to initiate steps that would enable the National Government to assist them in business and equipment donation.
The PS said the government could assist the youth to secure tenders across the country if they acquired Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) certificates for various counties, and be registered as suppliers at the Ministry’s Headquarters.
Mr Ochieng’ said it was also vital for the youth to register groups, renew registration certificates annually and have ongoing activities, to qualify for various funds intended for them.
“It would also be easy for youth groups and organisations to be given work equipment and tools, if they acquired the appropriate skills,” he noted.
The PS was speaking in Siaya town, yesterday, when he toured the Youth Empowerment Centre project, which had stalled for ten years.
He said the Government was committed to reviving the project, among similar ones across the country.
To renovate the project building, the National Government has spent Sh 4 million, as the County Government of Siaya also contributed Sh4.5 million.
Siaya Governor, Cornel Rasanga, said that the youth need to make the first step to facilitate their assistance, citing that most of the youth’s groups do not apply for tenders reserved for them by the County Government.
The PS said once the security of the project building was established, the Government will install a digital hub to assist the youth acquire skills and to do online jobs.
