Property worth millions of shillings were burnt down in a suspected arson attack at former Laikipia Senator the Late Godfrey Gitahi Kariuki farm in Rumuruti town.
According to the family spokesperson Mr. Patrick Mathenge, unknown people set ablaze over 800 acres of hay farm in a suspected arson attack last Friday.
On Saturday, the suspects also stormed the farm at around 7pm and razed down warehouse and store where over 50,000 bales of hay grass was razed.
“On Sunday evening the same people invaded another family’s farm and burnt down another 400 acres of hay.
“We believe that this is being carried out by people with ill motives and we are calling on police to carry out a throughout investigation and arrest the culprits,” said Mr. Mathenge, a son to the former senator who also manages the vast farm.
“We are now living in fear following the continuous attack at our property as we don’t know what will happen tomorrow after they are done with setting ablaze the farms,” lamented Ms Gladys Kariuki, the late senator’s widow.
Confirming the incident, Laikipia County Commissioner Mr. Onesmus Musyoki assured the family of enough security and that of their property.
However, he said that no one has been arrested in connection to the incident.
“We have launched investigations into the incident and I am assuring the family that those behind the incidents will be arrested. I am warning anyone who would be found to be behind the crime that he or she will face the full wrath of the law,” said the county commissioner.
