Property of unknown value was razed down by fire last night at Grogon Estate at the outskirts of Embu town.
The fire which broke out at 12.00 am left over 50 households in the cold with very little to salvage.
The spread of the fire was also facilitated by congestion of the houses and the problem of accessibility; however the Embu fire brigade was able to finally put it off.
The residents who were asleep when the fire broke out suspected the fire was deliberately started by arsonists who want to grab the portion of land.
Area MCA Muchiri Nyaga who rushed to the scene said there was high suspicion that the fire was started by cartels of land grabbers who wanted the residents out of the area so that they could construct their premises there.
“We are not going to take this lightly and no cartel or individuals will grab this land which belongs to the poor residents,” Nyaga noted.
There were no casualties though the fire did havoc. However, the MCA is appealing for well-wishers to step in and assist those who have been affected by the fire.
