Projects in Kuria to be completed, says water official

Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency official, Paul Agwanda, has said six water projects, in the Kuria region, will be completed to improve the community’s living standards.

Agwanda, who spoke during public participation at Gokeharaka water project at Mahuntutu Dam in Kuria West Sub County, said that some projects have already been launched awaiting funds allocations.

The Gokeharaka water project will purify water from Mahuntutu dam to make it safe for consumption, with the additional construction of water tanks and the extension of water pipes to deliver water to homes and various institutions.

The project once completed will be able to serve at least 10,000 residents of Kokeharaka and its environs.

The water Development Agency is currently serving the counties of Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Nyamira, Kisii, Kericho and Bomet.

Kuria West Deputy County Commissioner Andrew Mwiti said the project will improve the living standards of Kuria society through the provision of clean water and irrigation projects.

He said that, in addition to the Gokeharaka water project, which will benefit 10,000, employment will be created, as will the establishment of the water kiosks.

Kemunda Chacha, a resident of the Gokeharaka ward, applauded the public participation in the water project, noting that it was only through public engagement that meaningful projects can be achieved among the community.

Chacha said that the community has fully embraced the Gokeharaka water project because it will have huge benefits once it’s completed.
