A 20-year-old inmate in Bomet prison was on Friday arrested after attempting to escape.
Vincent Kirui, had been taken to St. Michael’s Secondary School where he was to sit for his biology practical paper for his Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE).
According to a warden the inmate asked for permission to use the pit latrine in the school where he jumped out over the fence to a nearby Chebirir village.
The warden, who declined to be named, said he thought the inmate had taken too long in the latrine before he broke in only to find the room empty.
The Bomet Central Police Commander, Musa Imamai Omar, said a contingent of security forces acted quickly and launched a serious manhunt, searching Bomet Town and its environs.
Kirui was said to have locked himself inside a house in a nearby Chebirir village where he was arrested after a tip-off from members of the public.
The escapee is serving seven years behind bars after being found guilty of causing serious harm to his girlfriend in January, 2021.
