As Makueni County gets ready to host 7th annual devolution conference this week the Council of Governors (COG) will sponsor the Pre- Conference football tournament Tuesday at Unoa Sports Ground.
The football teams will comprise the Members of County Assembly Forum (CAF), South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) members, Senate and Ministry of Devolution.
The County Assembly Forum (CAF) featuring MCAs will play against SEKEB at 9.00am while officials from the Ministry of Devolution will play against the senate in the second match.
“The winner between CAF and SEKEB will meet the winner of the Senate and Ministry of Devolution at the final,” said Makueni Sports Director Ambrose Kisoi while inspecting the preparations for the tournament at Unoa Sports Ground.
Kisoi said that the tournament is a tradition of the devolution conference and will act as a tool to create awareness to the residents on climate change.
He said the venue at Wote town has been fitted with seven spectator tents with a capacity of 864 stadium chairs, but will only accommodate 432 fans in adherence to Covid-19 regulations.
“No Covid-19 regulation will be relaxed, even here in the tournament. We will not allow fans in the sports ground if they are not fully vaccinated,” added Kisoi.
Kisoi appealed to the county government to allocate more funds to the department to develop sports grounds in the county.
The conference will focus on “multi-level governance for climatic action” and will bring together 3000 delegates.
