Pool resources to deliver, civil servants told

The Rift Valley Regional Director for the National Government Development-County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC), Olando Sitati, has asked civil servants in Elgeyo Marakwet County to pool the available resources to deliver on government projects.

He said while resources may be limited within the county, each department could avail themselves of what they have in terms of vehicles, drivers, and even fuel, among others, to enable them to deliver on their targets.

Addressing departmental heads at the County Commissioner’s hall in Iten, the Regional Director advised the officers to sit under the chairmanship of the County Commissioner and address any obstacles arising during the implementation of projects, saying it does not augur well for one government department to take another to court.

Sitati called on the officers to align all their projects with the president’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which is aimed at economically empowering Kenyans at the grassroots.

The regional boss said sectors to be given priority are agriculture and production, housing and settlement, including the construction of markets, Jua Kali, Micro Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), hustler funds, health, and the digital superhighway.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner John Korir, who inaugurated the committee, said no single government officer could deliver on any project alone, hence the importance of teamwork in the delivery of services.

The CC said laxity among civil servants would not be condoned and urged them to ensure that they collect data and make timely reports on all government projects being implemented in the county.

He discouraged delegation and called on HODs to ensure they attend the county meetings in person so that they could avail themselves of the information required for onward transmission to the regional office and finally to the national committee.

“The Head of the Department should be present to avail accurate information on the status of the projects and any challenges faced so that they can be escalated to higher offices,” he said.

The CC said the committee would endeavour to address all the challenges as they occurred and only escalate those beyond them to the higher offices, thus emphasising the importance of departmental heads sitting together to seek solutions to the challenges.

The meeting was also attended by the County coordinator, who is also the secretary to the committee, Martin Rotich.
