Two people are fighting for their lives at Kisii Level 6 Hospital after they were shot and injured by a traffic police officer on Friday night.
The two who include a driver and his passenger, were driving from Lolgorian to Kilgoris town in Transmara West and on reaching Kilgoris town, they were ambushed by a gun wielding traffic police officer who allegedly shot indiscriminately at them forcing their vehicle to roll severally.
Another passenger in the same vehicle escaped unhurt but a medic who declined to be named at Kisii Level 6 Hospital confirmed that the two patients had gunshot wounds in their chests and hands.
It’s not clear what caused the traffic officer (name withheld due to ongoing investigations) to shoot the duo but the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) are investigating the matter in order to get to the bottom of it.
The Transmara West Deputy County Commissioner, Hassan Noor confirmed the incident and said the vehicle was carrying five bags of charcoal but did not divulge more information instead referred us to the area Sub County Police Commmander, Abdullahi Dahir who was unavailable for comment.
