A police officer is fighting for his life at Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was attacked and seriously injured by a group of gangsters who also snatched a loaded pistol from him within Homa Bay Town.
The officer attached to Homa Bay Police station was attacked by a group of four men who were armed with crude weapons while on his way back to the station from a night patrol this morning.
Confirming the incident to KNA, Homa Bay County Police Commander (CPC), Esther Seroney said that the officer was attacked at around 3:00am by the suspects who descended on him with crude weapons inflicting serious deep cuts on his head.
Seroney added that the officer who was alone during the attack was overpowered by the gangsters after hitting his head severally with a sharp object leaving him with serious injuries.
She further said that in the process the suspects snatched a Cesca pistol from the officer fully loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition before they disappeared to unknown location.
The CPC revealed that two of the attackers were boda boda riders operating within Homa Bay Town, saying that they are following some crucial lead that would ensure the suspects are arrested and the stolen riffle recovered.
She appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that would assist the security officers to recover the pistol and bring the culprits to book, adding that the stolen pistol is dangerous and could be used by the suspects for criminal activities.
