Police officer in custody over defilement allegation

A police officer in Rangwe sub-county is under investigation for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl who was under child protection.

The suspect is reported to have taken advantage of a power blackout in the area on Saturday night to sneak into the ladies’ cell, where the minor was being accommodated and had carnal knowledge with her.

According to the police report, the girl reported the incident to a male officer who was on duty the following day claiming that his colleague (the suspect) had defiled her leading to the suspect officer’s immediate arrest.

Homa Bay County Police Commander, Samson Ole Kinne confirmed the arrest saying that the officer has been detained for further investigation.

Kinne however said that a medical examination report from Rangwe sub-county hospital indicated that the girl was not defiled as there was no sign of penetration.

He noted the case filed will be presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions before the suspect, who is being detained at Rangwe police station, is arraigned in court.
