A police officer who was arrested on Sunday evening with sixteen kilograms of bhang was on Monday afternoon arraigned before a Moyale court.
Willy Alex Wambua is also said to be under interdiction is a police officer stationed in Bungoma County, according to the Moyale Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO) Peter Kimani.
He was charged before the Moyale Principal Magistrate Simon Kimani with trafficking narcotic which is contrary to section 4 (a) of the Narcotic and Psychotropic substance act 4 of 1994.
The charges read that Wambua was arrested in possession of the narcotics by police who conducted a search in the vehicle he was driving registration number KDA 298 Z a Toyota Wish at Walda police roadblock in Sololo Sub-County and found him carrying the bhang with a street value of Sh 64,000. The accused was remanded until May 13 this year when his case will be heard.
Wambua had applied to be bailed but was denied following an application by the Moyale Prosecutor Mutuma Gitonga who said that the accused was a rogue law enforcer who had another pending case in a court in Bungoma.
Last year a senior Kenya Defence forces (KDF) Officer was arrested and charged by the military police trying to smuggle bhang worth millions of shillings to Nairobi.
