Police in Homa Bay county are investigating an incident in which gangsters sexually assaulted a woman before robbing her of Sh17,000 and a mobile phone.
The gang of four men raped the 25-year-old woman in her home at a village in Homa Bay Sub-county.
The gangsters reportedly went into the woman’s house before committing the heinous acts.
According to the local Chief Samuel Nyagwara, the gangsters told the woman that they wanted to meet her husband.
The woman told them that her husband was away attending a funeral.
However, the men insisted on staying put in the house in pretext that they were waiting for the husband’s return. But when the woman ordered them to leave and return later, they refused to budge.
Then suddenly, one of the gangsters switched off the lights in the house and got hold of the woman before they began raping her in turns. They ordered the woman not to raise an alarm lest they kill her.
After the rape ordeal, the gangsters robbed the woman of Sh17,000 she had in the house and her mobile phone.
“The woman raised an alarm when they had gone. There were blood stains on the bedsheet on her bed. The bedsheet was also muddied indicating that gangsters stepped on it,” Nyagwara added.
The woman recorded a statement with police and sought medical care.
Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Peter Maluki said their preliminary investigations revealed that the gangsters were accusing the woman’s husband of giving police information about their criminal deeds.
Maluki said they were pursuing crucial leads to enable them to apprehend the suspects.
“We are pursuing crucial leads in our investigations to enable us to get hold of the suspects,” Maluki said.
