Police in Teso south sub county have arrested a group of 17 youths who have been terrorizing the residents in the area.
Addressing the press in Teso South Sub County police station yesterday, the area police commander Francis Gachoki said that the arrested youth have been engaging in cases of rape, terrorizing and attacking residents leaving them with serious injuries.
“We have arrested a group of youth from Ochude location who call themselves 42 brothers, Kapedo warriors, vijana wepesi and kemodo warriors.
Gachoki stated that the arrested youth have been raping women and injuring the cane cutters,” he said.
“On November 12, we arrested 8 youth whom we took to the court and we were granted time to carry out more investigation. Thereafter we decided to have an engagement with the public and sensitize them on the importance of working together and providing the information to the security agencies, he said adding that the engagement has since helped the police arrest nine other suspects.
He disclosed that 31 rolls of bhang were found together with machetes and ‘pangas’ which were being used to terrorize the residents.
The commander vowed to disband all illegal groups of young people in the area, calling on the public to help the security officers by giving them important information about the remaining members of the groups, some of whom have fled to neighboring Uganda.
“I want to appeal to the public to give us information because without it we cannot get rid of them. When we beef up security, they always run to Uganda but this time we have beefed up the security and we will make sure they have been arrested and are taken to jail. The parents have also decided that the law should take its course,” he said.
